Women Homesteaders and Genealogy Presentation
July 23 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The Yankton Community Library will host speaker and genealogist Gail Blankenau on Tuesday, July 23rd at 6pm. Blankenau will present on the topic of Women Homesteaders and genealogy. The 1862 Homestead Act provided women heads of household-whether single, widowed and even abandoned- with a unique opportunity to own land in their own right. These records can establish family relationships and add to our genealogy, along with giving us a fascinating window into their lifestyles and the neighborhoods to which they belonged.
Gail Blankenau resides in Lincoln, NE. She is a professional genealogist, speaker, and author who is on a mission to help fellow genealogists succeed with their family history. She specializes in German genealogy, land records, and lineage research. She shares her research and advice in a wide variety of publications including the New England Genealogical and Historical Register, The Genealogist, and Nebraska Ancestree among others. Gail speaks on genealogical topics at local, state and national conferences and we are excited to have her share her expertise right here in Yankton!
This presentation is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
