Local Artist Exhibit
January 6, 2018 @ 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The newly renovated community event and gallery space at the Coyote Twin Theaters will host an exhibition by local artist Susan M. Heggestad, beginning January 6th.
The current exhibit debuts mixed media works on paper completed by Heggestad over the past four years. Although some aspects of the work may feel familiar to those who’ve seen her artwork before, Heggestad says she is exploring new territory in this recent series.
Despite the intensity of the topic, viewers should not expect to see artwork that depicts graphic imagery. While some may question the need for artwork that addressess the topic of violence, the artist feels strongly that her job isn’t to shy away from tough subjects.
Instead of the usual sort of gallery reception, the artist reached out to local writers and poets to ask if they might want to participate in exploring this theme during an evening readings. A large number of them responded enthusiastically, and will join together on Saturday, January 20th at 7pm to share some of their work, as well as the writings of notable writers addressing the topic. Participants include social artist Sandra Kern Mollman, writers Katy Beem and Carrie Prentice, as well as poets Avery Guess, Norma Wilson, Lindy Obach, Marcella Remund, and South Dakota State Poet Laureate Lee Ann Rorlpaugh. The reading will be open to the public. The exhibit will be on display through February 17th, and can be viewed during the theaters open hours 4-9, Tuesday – Sunday
