Kids In The Park
July 24 @ 9:30 am - July 28 @ 11:30 am
Join Yankton Parks and Recreation & Connecting Cultures for a free, family fun, Kids in the Park collaborative event featuring The Lucky Band, a husband and wife duo, Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis, who are two time Latin Grammy winners and Emmy winners for their work on the PBS show “Lishy Lou and Lucky too”, which is a bilingual TV series for children. This free children’s event will provide family fun from 9:30am-11:30am on Saturday, July 24 2021 in Fantle Memorial Park in Yankton, SD. (Address: 2000 Douglas Street) Facebook event – Kids in the Park – The Lucky Band
Through their popular children’s music, we will be celebrating diversity and inclusion through songs from their new album, Crayon Kids (a review by PhilsPick). Additionally, band member Lucky Diaz will perform a live reading of his newly released children’s book, Paletero Man (Ice Cream Man); a refreshing tale of determination, kindness, ice pops, and the true meaning of being party of a community.
Limited copies of the Paletero Man book will be given away at the event, in addition to paletas (ice pops) for all attendees, courtesy of the event sponsors, Cimpl’s (American Foods Group)!
A fun summer children’s activity, consisting of a community scavenger hunt, is organized around Yankton in conjunction with and leading up to this special event. Like the boy in the story, participants will hunt for colorful paletas (posters) at various participating locations around Yankton. The hunt’s registration forms (Passport) will be available online at Connecting Cultures Yankton (Facebook), and Connecting Cultures (website) and the hunt will end with a drawing at The Kids in the Park concert on Saturday, July 24th (9:30am -11:30am). Children will have 3 ways to enter – including a fun coloring page of their favorite paletas flavor. All are welcome!
